Skoda has built an interactive website to celebrate the company's long (but not very well known) history in making cars. Sadly for people who don't speak German it's not very interesting as the site is only offered in German at the moment. Still, one can still look at the nice pictures accompanying the written articles. The website describes all of the 110 year history of the company divided in key eras of the car manufacturer. The company actually started off by building bicycles in 1895. The company was founded as 'bicycle factory Laurin & Klement' in the Bohemian city of Mladá Boleslav. 1899 it began building motorbikes, 1905 the czech company launched their first car the 'Voiturette A'. The Skoda name was first applied to the cars when the Skoda company took over the original company in 1925. After some tough years and being locked up behind the iron curtain Skoda was eventually taken over by VW in 1991. Just take a look at: www.skoda-tradition.de and be amazed by the quality of the graphics and artwork of the site. Skoda has really done well, now we can only hope they will offer it in English some day or you could start learning German of course..
