The ADAC Eiffelrennen at the Nürburgring marked the end of this year’s GTC-TC racing season. After a promising start of the season at the Jim Clark Revival at the Hockenheimring, the GTC-TC organisation had trouble filling the field for the remainder of the season. At the last round in the Eifel the series had a healthy startgrid with more than 30 entries having a go at each other. Overall winner in both races was Hans Wagner in a BMW M1.
In both races position 2 and 3 were taken by Dr. Armin Zumbotel (Porsche 906) and Timo Biedermann (Porsche 911 RSR). Pole-sitter Timo Scheibner (Chevrolet Corvette) had a lot of bad luck as he was out of the first race after just seven laps. Peter Nielsen and Henrik Lindberg in the lovely Lenham Hurst GT decided both GTC-TC’71 races in their favour. Because the last round at Dijon had to be cancelled the Eiffelrennen meant the last race of the season. Obviously this meant the new champions were crowned. ‘Champions’ as there are so many classes in the GTC-TC series. This year only Gustav Edelhoff in his ex-Roppes Ford Escort managed to prolonge his title.
Plaaning for the 2009 season has already started. So let’s hope there will be some more competitors next year. Perhaps this would be possible by finally allowing more group 5 cars to partake in the GTC-TC’81 series? There are more than enough BMWs, Fords and Porsche waiting to get out of their garages and play...
